Blood Drive
Community Service Project 2009
On May 30th Chi Gamma Gamma’s Spring 2009 Line hosted a Blood Drive on behalf of the Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. The 2009 Line partnered with Life South Community Blood Centers, a community blood supplier for local hospitals in Florida, Georgia and Alabama, to put on a blood drive to support the Greater Atlanta District of Life South in their commitment to meeting the blood supply needs of the hospitals that serve the Cobb County and Fulton County communities.
This blood drive was held in the Rose Garden-Davenport Town Community in Smyrna, GA. Omega Brothers participating in the event included the chapter’s Basileus (President) Reginald Williams, Kenneth Carter, David Jones, Don Blue, Tranard McConnell, Herb Ford, and Keith Woods. The event was a complete success; enough blood was collected to provide life-saving blood products for as many as 51 people who may be suffering from injuries or diseases such as cancer or sickle cell anemia – diseases which affect the African American community each day.
Along with hosting a successful blood drive, the 2009 line formed a new partnership with Hands, Feet, & Mouth of Rose Garden Hills, Inc. This organization was responsible for the “Whirligig”, a festival celebrating the end of another school year. The event promoted a healthy lifestyle, healthy competition, community fellowship, and great fun. Hands, Feet, & Mouth Inc. have been working in community for over 20 years promoting the youth to stay in school and graduate. The 2009 Line pledged that they would commit themselves to participating in the Whirligig Festival in the upcoming years and continue to be a positive role model for the youth of Cobb County.
