TALENT HUNT The planning for the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Talent Hunt began in 1945. The need for such a program was born out of the unequal opportunities afforded to some American youths to develop and give full expression to their talents. The first District Talent Hunt Program was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 19th, 1946. Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter was chartered in 1988, providing service in the N/Fulton Cobb County area. In 1988 there was only a metro-wide Talent Hunt program that we supported and used to select our Talent Hunt winner. In 2009 two chapter members, Brothers David Carter and Wayne Crosse, put forth the idea of our chapter creating its own Talent Hunt program. We began soliciting High School students in our service area to participate in our annual Talent Hunt Program to showcase their talent. All participates are awarded a certificate and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive a monetary award. The 1st and 2nd place winners will have the opportunity to compete on the State level against students representing other chapters across the State of Georgia. The 1st place winner on the State level will advance to the District and compete against the State winners from Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi. The 1st place winner on the District level will participate in a demonstration on the International level with other students that have advanced in one of the other 11 Districts that make up the International footprint of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Monetary awards are giving to the winners on the State, District, and International levels. Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter has awarded over $15,000 to winners of the Talent program in the Cobb County service area. Brother David Carter became our first chapter Talent Hunt Chairman and has since moved on to serve in the same capacity as our State Chairman and now as the 7th District Talent Hunt chairman. Our International Hq. web site sums up the Talent Hunt program as follows - “The Talent Hunt Program of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity has touched thousands of students, many of whom have gone on to make outstanding contributions to their communities and our world. Many have earned scholarships, awards, and recognition through exposure from this program. It is our quest as Omega men of substance to continue to grow in our unyielding commitment to support our youth.” Here are some photos taken at a recent Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter Talent Hunt: |
